STAINED GLASS

Judy McQuinn

Judy was born and raised on Vancouver Island and now resides in the Sea to Sky corridor operating McQuinn Manor Bed & Breakfast along with her home based business of Stained Glass.

Always fascinated with stained glass Judy was living in Port McNeill when the opportunity arose to take a community college course. One piece of glass led to another, she continued to learn and improve and as happens in a small community became the instructor. Judy has worked with glass for 25 years and inspired by nature and color she creates a variety of art from whimsical to classic all with attention to detail and intricacy which is indicative of her own personal style.

SCULPTURE AND DESIGN

Fran Solar

Fran Solar has been a weaver for many years, specializing in functional clothing and textiles, using traditional fibers and techniques. In the mid 1990’s she began to experiment with basketry as another textile art form. After taking workshops at Basket Focus Conferences in Toronto, Ottawa, and the Okanagen, she developed an interest in using metals-ie copper, brass, stainless steel, wire, as well as interesting bits and pieces from scrap yards, hardware stores and Boeing Surplus--to create unique woven sculpture, both free standing and wall mounted. She now finds she has more fun improvising arrangements of shapes, textures, materials, and colors than she did as a traditional fiber artist. However she still uses the same loom based textile techniques developed from earlier years to weave these new sculptural forms.

GLASS SCULPTURE / BLOWN GLASS

Ed Colberg

Ed Colberg grew up in central Alberta but has found his home in the Sea to Sky Valley. When Ed was a child he had a much frowned upon fascination with fire. As an adult Ed still loves to play with fire, however he now uses fire to create art.

Blown and sculpted glass are the main media Ed uses to explore themes relating to nature, the human condition and the journey of the soul. Ed has studied glass blowing and glass sculpture with many prominent names in the Canadian and International glass art community. He continually seeks to further his technical skill and his ideas of what is possible with this versatile and captivating medium.
