PAINTING AND DRAWING

Linda Wagner

Linda Wagner grew up in the Comox Valley.

"Plein air" painting requires astute observation of the elements and confidence to quickly record them. I use fast drying alkyd oils so the painting can be finished the next day while fresh in my mind. Working outdoors gives my work a liveliness and immediacy that can be illusive in the studio. My goal is to capture my first impression of a scene and express my emotional response to it.

Maureen Brown

"I paint because I need and enjoy the challenge. Painting for me is demanding and exhilarating”

Maureen Brown has always had an interest in art, particularly enjoying drawing as a child. Born in Wales, she attended the Twickenham School of Art, London and worked for several years as a commercial artist. In 1966, she emigrated to Squamish with her family.

Although Maureen works in many media, she prefers the textures of oil paint, and the way in which the colours blend and combine. She paints in a naturalistic style, exploring relationships of colour and light in her subjects.

Maureen's work reflects her interest and passion for the environment, her garden, and her grandchildren. Maureen's paintings are often displayed in galleries and businesses in the Sea to Sky corridor.

Toby Jaxon

”…with a strong passion for colour, my artistic inspiration springs from nature and movement.”

Nature is alive with vibrating colour and animating spirit: this observation is confirmed in the views I enjoy from my own backyard and informs my latest canvasses. Beneath the gaze of the tranquil coastal mountains, dappled forest stands and stark granite outcrops reveal the vital nature of the local spirits inhabiting them. Blue sky, gray stone, and green tree reveal their chartreuse, violet, and fuschia souls. Just as Squamish grows into a community of diversity and opportunity, so, too, my canvas flowers bloom in vivid contrasting colour and multiple perspective, celebrating the vitality of my community and its geography.

Wanda Doyle

Wanda Doyle is a local artist, born and raised in Vancouver. Her passion for painting came at a very young age, when she would melt pencil crayon fillings with water to make paint. Nowadays, she paints with store bought acrylics and oils.

Wanda is able to transfer her love of beauty and colour to her canvas, whatever the subject, and feels `painting is yet another form of creativity which makes my life stimulating and worth jumping out of bed for! I paint to bring light into the world. I aim to contribute something in whatever I do.’

Her paintings hang in homes in Canada and as far away as Spain and have appeared in local newspapers, galleries, art walks, calendars and fundraisers. Wanda has shown her work in juried and non-juried exhibits.

Wanda is currently the President of VISUALS and past Membership Director of the North Shore Artists Guild.

Laurel Terlesky

Laurel Terlesky has been practicing as a professional visual artist for more than ten years after completing her BFA degree, majoring in visual art (painting) from the University of Victoria. She creates canvases that are largely abstract in style built around an awareness of the human form and kinetic movement. Themes that have developed a language in her work revolve around electricity & power, sustainable energy practices, spirituality, and the human body as it relates to spatial environment. Her paintings also challenge our awareness of space by illustrating optical, illusionary space or by flattening space or by creating depth with solid colour placement. Her works often have the additional elements added to make the painting become a 3 dimensional object giving it a presence on to its own. She has exhibited her work in Whistler, Squamish, Victoria, Vancouver, Montreal and San Francisco.

Laurel recently spent a month at an international artist residency in Barcelona, Spain working on future projects.
